What is the Director's Notebook?
The director’s notebook is a document developed by the director prior to rehearsals and any meetings with the performers or production team.
It is a record of the director’s personal process of interpreting the play, developing a directorial intention and an idea of what impact he or she wants the play to have on an audience. The director begins to think about how particular moments may be staged using elements of performance and production.
The Director's Notebook Task in DP Theatre is an external assessment for both SL and HL Theatre students.
SL Students: 35%
HL Students: 20%
You are required to choose a published play text that you have not previously studied to performed in and develop ideas regarding how it could be staged for an audience.
How do I present these ideas?
A Director's Notebook (20 pages maximum) which includes the presentation of your final directorial intentions and the intended impact on an audience.
A list of all sources must be cited.
